Ivanhoe Community & Local Area Information

Information

The City of Ivanhoe is nestled in the piney woods of East Texas known as the Big Thicket. Ivanhoe is 7 miles South of Woodville on Highway 69; it is only a 2 hour drive from Houston and a 45 minute drive from Beaumont, Jasper or Livingston.

The City has approximately 2,500 acres of gently rolling hills, verdant forests, and 5 private lakes.

Residents of Ivanhoe enjoy the lakes in a variety of ways: boating, including water skiing or jet skiing, or lazily floating down the lake in a canoe or pontoon boat, is a great way to spend the afternoon!

Ivanhoe has fabulous bass fishing! Early in the morning, and throughout the day, you will see people at their favorite fishing spot, whether that’s from a boat, their own dock, or a spot near one of the dams.

Many families come to Ivanhoe for camping; some camp out in tents while others bring travel trailers. The City of Ivanhoe is currently monitoring camp sites and will be notifying campers that all waste must be disposed of in accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations. Any travel trailers put on property long term will, at some point in time, be required to install a state approved septic system.

All residents enjoy the wildlife: deer, turtles, ducks, squirrels, possums, raccoons, and magnificent birds of every description.

The diversity of Ivanhoe presents newcomers with the opportunity to build a cabin in the woods or a home on a wooded lot or on the lake. You can also place a manufactured home on many of the lots. There is an active resale market and many clients choose from one of the lovely existing homes for their primary or second home or for investment purposes.

The beauty of this little known area will surprise and delight you. Come join us. Call Ivanhoe home!
